Diva 198: Keep it Simple, Silly

In the hustle and bustle of the Christmas season, I am the Diva has suggested that we tangle something in the K.I.S.S. tradition:  Keep it Simple, Silly (or, as an English teacher we would say keep it short and simple).

I wanted to do something festive for the season, so chose a simple round ornament (yes I used a compass - it's simpler!)
I then decided that the simple grid pattern Holly fit the bill for both of my criteria.  A tiny bit of shading and Voila: (wish I knew how to put the accent on that 'a')

One of the things I find neat about tangling is that although this was easy to do, it looks fairly complicated.  But really - it was simple!

I wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season, however you celebrate, if you do.  Finding this site has been a joy to me this year and I hope that joy will continue into the New Year, for me and everyone else.  See you in January.

  1. Yes, it does not seem simple. But it really seems beautiful. And that's what it matters.

  2. It's lovely - and I agree, all tangles look much more complicated than they actually are! I used to say this to everyone when they complimented me on my drawings, but now, I keep quiet! Axxx

  4. This is one of my favorite tangles for the season! Love your ornament. Regarding how to do the accent mark over the "a" of the word Voilà. Hit the "option" and the "tilde" key (~) at the same time (this will make the backward accent mark) and next hit the letter "a" key. Anyway that is how my keyboard works. Hope it works for you...have a good HOLLY-day!

    1. thanks Lynell - I have a Hewlett Packard and the keyboard has a couple of odd keys - like 'fn' but no option key. The tilde is printed in blue, but I haven't figured out yet how to access those blue figures. (I'm afraid to try because I have read of people getting stuck in the blue key mode) David's number way works, however.

  5. Beautiful ornament, Kia. Love the color. The Holly pattern is perfect and well done.

(To put an accent on the a, press and hold the Alt Key while typing in 0224 on the number keypad. à will appear at the cursor position. There are six accents available by changing the number typed in. 0224 -0229 produce six different accents for the a. The other vowels can be accented as well but their numbers are different. (a=0024-0229) (e=0232-0235) (i=0236-0239) (o=0242-0246) u=0249-0252) Try this out. It works for most fonts but may vary in individual cases. Have fun practicing the different vowels and accent combinations. There are other alt number combinations for n, and, y. Be sure to hold the ALT key for all accented characters accessed by these numerical character codes.

Have a great Holiday Season too, Kia.

  7. Simple and yet so pretty. Next time you need something like voilà with that cute little accent, just do a search for the word without the accent and several sites will show up where you can just do a copy/paste to get what you want :) Simple and you don't have to remember any directions LOL! Merry Christmas, Kia!

  8. Oooh. I've never seen the "holly" tangle before. I like it and I really like your ornament. Very appropriate and nicely executed.
PS: I tried David's method for adding accents, but I have a lap top which doesn't have the number keys on the right side and his method doesn't work with the top keys. When I'm feeling less lazy, I'll google it. Happy Holidays.
