Every Inchie Monday: Radio

Hi Folks,

"A loud clatter of gunk music flooded through the Heart of Gold  cabin as Zaphod searched the sub-etha RADIO (sic) wavebands for news of himself.  The machine was rather difficult to operate.  For years RADIOS (sic) had been operated by means of pressing buttons and turning dials; then as the technology became more sophisticated the controls were made touch sensitive -- you merely had to brush the panels with your fingers; now all you had to do was wave your hand in the general direction of the components and hope.  It saved a lot of muscular expenditure of course, but meant that you had to sit infuriatingly still if you wanted to keep listening to the same programme." [chapter 12]

This is a picture of the battery operated radio I bought for safety reasons in case the power goes off and I want to hear the news.  Well, actually, I bought it to listen to Blue Jays baseball games and to carry around with me while I do so.  (Mine's actually white, but white is boring to colour).

And here is my quilled radio inchie:

Does anyone listen to the radio except in their cars these days?  I certainly don't listen to music on mine.  How about you?

  2. I adore your quilled radio it is so clever and I "get" that you had a radio to carry round to listen to your game - my husband has a Roberts radio so he can listen to the cricket whilst sat in the garden - when there's any sun!! But you are right - I only ever listen to the radio in the car and I really enjoy it but I have an iPod loaded with audio books so I still listen to the spoken word just not on a radio live!! Great inchies Love Jenny

  3. Wonderful little inchies. Love that quilled one! I listen to music on my computer, but I do still listen to the radio music in my car too. The body doesn't move like it used to, but I still like to dance in my head!
